Jessica Biel: “I am also a Hungarian girl!”
Jessica Biel is hard to recognise in Hulu’s brand new series, Candy. The famous American actress and model features as a deeply religious but deranged murderer. The premiere of the new series was held in the elegant Los Angeles El Capitan theatre where Biel appeared. A fan meet-up followed the premier. Afterwards, Biel went to a private party where she talked enthusiastically about her Hungarian ancestors.
Hulu’s newest series takes us back to 1980s America, to conservative Texas. Based on true events, it presents the monotonous, overregulated and suffocating life of a deeply religious community. Jessica Biel resembles a Hungarian grandmother from the 1980s rather than an American lady in the series. Interestingly,
she talked about her 100% Hungarian ancestors enthusiastically
after the premiere this week to Glamour. Below you can watch the latest trailer of Candy:
“My great-grandmother was 100 pc Hungarian,”
she said. She was not from Budapest but the northern parts of the country, Jessica Biel added. “I forgot the name of the village, I have to look it up again, but it is somewhere in the mountains,” she explained. “I have been to Hungary, but that was many years ago, so it is high time to go back there again. Kids were small, and such a long trip would have been too much for them, but I would like to return now. I would gladly visit my great-grandmother’s village.
So I am a Hungarian girl, just like you,”
she highlighted, smiling.
The actress shared some thoughts about her new role as well. “It is hard to identify with a character who kills her friend… But I tried to attach myself to the deeper layers of the series to understand what might go on in the head of the character. Everybody felt humiliated, and we can understand if that results in a slap,” she told the fans. “I had to think that further.
Candy has a perfect marriage, her husband is wonderful, but they cannot talk to each other…”
she analysed the core conflict and her character in the series.
Jessica Biel’s husband, Justin Timberlake, remained in the background during the evening, Glamour said. He said that he would also like to come to Hungary. Timberlake added he was working on something big, but he could not share additional details.
